Re: Upper back pain?

Back in high school I had back pain like that pretty often from the bass drum I carried around but idk that any of that would help here. I mostly just tried to either keep the weight off by physically taking the drum off whenever I could or by shifting it so it wasn't pulling forward on my back. Maybe try leaning back more often when you're sitting around?

Re: Upper back pain?

This could really be a number of different things.  I've been struggling with quite a bit of back pain lately, but it's been more lower than upper...when it gets bad I find lying down on a hard floor helps, as it straightens your spine out to its normal position and alleviates any pressure on discs that may be compressed.  The most likely causes are those you've already suggested, like bad posture and sleeping a bit weird, or some sort of strain or sprain.  Sometimes it's also a sign of stress and muscle tension.  There isn't really a lot you can do apart from usual over the counter pain relief, heat packs and some basic stretching exercises/breathing exercises to de-stress.  Trying to keep as active as you can under the limitations of the pain you have is also better than being completely still.

Re: Upper back pain?

oh my yes I went and laid down on the floor and I could feel my entire spine decompressing. I already feel better, I need to start sleeping on the floor. thank you!

Re: Upper back pain?

Ask a physiotherapist friend to show you some back exercises. It's amazing how 20 minutes a day of doing exactly the right motion can help.

I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those rap guys' girlfriends.
