Tumblr imploding

If you guys haven't been keeping tabs on Tumblr lately, they've just announced that they're taking the final step by purging ALL NSFW from the site. Be sure to export your blog and be on the lookout for a new place.

Personally I'd recommend mastodon.host, their only rule is that you have to throw a content warning over your NSFW.
EDIT: Actually looks like even mastodon.social has the same lenient NSFW rule, although they have a 500char limit instead of 2048.

Anyone else have any ideas where the huge cardiophile community on Tumblr could go?

Re: Tumblr imploding

Mastodon (and its predecessor status.net) is like distributed twitter.
Diaspora is like distributed facebook/google+/tumblr.
Diaspora definitely fits the bill better. The downside is sloppy codebase (it needs *both* nodejs and ruby on rails! Not to mention redis, memcache and all the shebang of buzzwords).

Then of course your site as well as HBP... As long as you can stay under radar and/or spend your time and effort to keep tabs on "illegal porn".

edit: this is that law that made companies liable for infringements performed by their users, prompting tumblr's and others' decision to ban adult content:

Re: Tumblr imploding

Totally forgot Diaspora existed but that could work great. Know any good pods? Diaspora's wizards are all metrics and numbers-type filtering, no filtering by the more subjective stuff like rules and content.

Re: Tumblr imploding

pluspora.com was open for G+ refugees. I failed to figure out by whom :D I have no experience with others.
Ideally we would want to run a dedicated pod, or even better several in different jurisdictions, but the required effort makes it unrealistic...

If you're a user that creates NSFW content, Newgrounds could be an outlet for you. They've been around since the early 2000s and have never (and likely will never) censor anyone. As long as it's your own creation, and not illegal, you're free to put up whatever content you want. Movies, games, audio and artwork.

Re: Tumblr imploding

I played a bit with movim, on an existing pod, and installed my own, alongside with my (pre-existing) ejabberd instance. I can say that I am impressed.

  • It uses the right technology for the job (and it is the first one of what I've seen)

  • It took me under an hour to get up and running

  • It is not awful from engineering standpoint (and it is the first one of what I've seen)

  • There are closed groups as well as unrestricted public space

  • It actually looks pretty sleek, should be quite usable for a non-tech user

It also has a mis(?)feature of handling all non-text content via xep-0363 httpupload, making it

  • perishable in default setup (you'd have to set infinite retention time)

  • difficult to manage for the administrator

And there are some gremlins in the UI.

Re: Tumblr imploding

I'd go out on a limb and say https://www.pixiv.net/ is not only good, but an EXCELLENT alternative as well if you're into drawn/written creations. It has a huge Asian cardiophile community that posts tons of art. There are also a decent amount of English speaking cardiophiles too but I think the fact that it's a Japanese site turns a lot of people off to it.

-It boasts a vastly superior Novel system to Tumblr if you want to post stories. You can group your stories together, add pictures, add a cover, etc.
-By hitting the like heart on something you can bookmark it, and further organize your bookmarks with tags, or keep some secret and others public.
-fantastic upload and organization system.

Pixiv and Twitter are a great combo and it's what I use now.
