Re: Facts about the heart

An adult's heart is approximately the size of two fists, while a child's heart is the size of a fist.

(I've heard a few conflicting pieces of info from various sources on the size of the human heart, so take this with a grain of salt)

Re: Facts about the heart

The heart of a blue whale can weigh up to 1300 pounds and is the size of a small car. It beats just 8-10 times a minute and on the surface can be over 30

Re: Facts about the heart

How loud is a heartbeat? Very quiet

1 dB is the quietest this a human ear can pick up. An example of this would be like listening to someone's heart beating from 1 metre away in a completely silent room. However once again this is subjective so if you were to then walk right up to that person and their heart rate and blood pressure didn’t change then that level might change to say 5–10dB based on what their current heart rate and blood pressure was.

Re: Facts about the heart

Thanks to its natural pacemaker, a human heart can (in theory) continue to beat so long as it has a steady supply of energy and oxygen. Exactly how long appears to vary however; from what I'm told, it could be as little as 1 or 2 minutes after removal, or as long as 15 minutes.

It's said the average human heart pumps over 7,600L of blood in a day. This actually isn't true. The heart only pumps about 5L of blood every day. It just pumps those 5L over and over again all day long. :D

Re: Facts about the heart

There are as many heart muscle cells in an infants body as there is in adults heart.
