Making your own steth mic

To anyone who has cut a stethoscope chest piece to make a steth microphone, how was the audio recording? Was it worth it?
I'm trying to find better alternatives to just recording with my phone.

Re: Making your own steth mic

What I've seen some people do is use a bit of tubing (can't remember if it was heat-shrink or not but I don't think so) to cover one ear piece and the end of a small lavalier mic snugly so you have an easily reversible non-destructive way to turn your steth into a mic. Not sure how the quality is yet though.

There is no need to cut the tube: with some care and patience you can pull the tube off the barb of the stethoscope head. Then connect a silicone tube with a mic inside instead. In combination with a good low noise audio adaptor the results are quite good.
