Complete the sentence with whatever heart-related stuff relates to you!

I'll begin: You know you're a cardiophile when you want to learn everything about the heart, even though you're not going into cardiology

What are you doing for halloween? In my case, it's not really big where I live and I'm too old for trick or treat *shrugs*. I guess I can give candy to trick or treaters if they come knocking.

Was browsing reddit again and ran across a post on ExplainLikeIm5 asking about how pacemakers manage to deal with the need for different rates and there was this comment that I thought would interest you guys, especially you writer types.

RenttheJoe wrote:

I have a cardioverter/defibrillator. Mine will pace at 47bpm (my normal resting heart rate is around 56-60). It will also cardiovert (aka shock - think the paddles, but directly attached to my heart) when I get an irregular heart rhythm (most common for me) or when it's going too fast (have walked into the hospital at >300bpm (360, but who's counting)). It will basically shock me to stop my heart, then shock me to start it up again, and then force pace. It's weird to sit in a chair at the heart function clinic and have a nurse speed up and slow down your heart.

The whole thread's a pretty interesting read if you've got the time, too. Apparently really old pacemakers didn't have any ability to adapt so you were just stuck with a single speed heart?

I know you all know I love heartbeats but sometimes it’s nice to just say it. Like, when you hear a heartbeat and it’s just wow that is a living person right there and they have this thing in their chest working tirelessly to keep them alive which is both something entirely uniquely theirs and something they have in common with every single person on the planet and it just goes on beating even when they aren’t aware of it and fights so hard to keep beating and honestly that is such a beautiful thing and just being able to feel and hear someone living like that is some kind of magic and I just have a lot of feelings about it ok

I’ll take this down if you want b but god god GOD this is. This speaks to me so much, like the feeling of appreciation and wonder will never ever leave and no matter what I can’t take it for granted

Seeing a new file from my favorite female heartbeater always makes me happy and this is a good reason why.
